Archbishop Rowan Williams on poet Dylan Thomas

Wednesday 1st August 2012

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, spoke about Welsh poet Dylan Thomas with Geoff Haden, Vice Chairman of the Dylan Thomas Society.

Geoff Haden, with his wife Anne, has restored the poet's birthplace, 5 Cwmdonkin Drive in Swansea, and is now in the process of recording one hundred interviews with people who met or were influenced by Dylan Thomas over the past one hundred years.

The Archbishop, who was also born and brought up in Swansea, spoke of the influence that Thomas had on him and his generation, and said that the best way of celebrating the centenary of his birth in 2014 would be to encourage young people to write poetry and prose.  The interview concluded with the Archbishop reading the Dylan Thomas poem "Over Sir John's Hill".
